lazy monk started in 2007 as a collaboration project between two contemporary artists living in the United States. The project began with using waste materials to make fashionable and safe messenger bags for children. Currently, lazy monk produces and develops various bags, including full-size messenger bags, backpacks, totes, fishing bags, and more. lazy monk bag incorporates "sashiko," a traditional Japanese embroidery applied by hand stitch by stitch. The concept of the project is to make a "simple and beautiful bag" by fusing handmade warmth and urban culture. By carefully piercing the sashiko pattern, we hope to share the joy with the users during their adventure and life. 

 

​ All of our bags are custom-made to reduce the number of production and minimize the consumption of natural resources. We also repair our bags, aiming for sustainable production and consumption. We can all do our part for a better future by working together with responsible consumers.

lazy monkはアメリカ在住のコンテンポラリー・アーティスト二人によるコラボレーション・プロジェクトとして、２００７年にスタート。そもそも、このプロジェクトは廃材を利用してファッショナブルでかつ安全性の高いメッセンジャーバッグを子供たちの為に作る事から始まり、現在ではフルサイズ・メッセンジャーバッグを含む各種のバッグを制作・展開している。

 

lazy monkバッグは日本の伝統工芸である「刺し子」を取り入れ、手作りの暖かみとハードなアーバンカルチャーを融合させ、「シンプルかつ美しいバッグ」をコンセプトに作られている。同時に、刺し子模様を一針一針丁寧に刺す事で、作り手の思いをバッグに託し、ライダーと自転車に乗る喜びや辛さを共有できる様なバッグを目指している。

​バッグは全てオーダーメイドによって作ることで生産の数を抑え資源の無駄を最小限に抑えるだけではなく、バッグのリペアをすることで長く使っていただき、持続可能な生産と消費を目指しています。
